Christopher is going to be turning 10 years old shortly after this years walk. I can’t believe where the time has gone.
He was diagnosed at 2 ½
years old, has been in ASD classrooms since then, he has completed two
years at Scottish Rites when he was younger, and will now be entering
the fourth grade.
He is an absolutely remarkable child! He plays the
piano, and LOVES arts and crafts. Chris doesn’t make the “typical” art
projects that one would think a child his age would make, instead of
houses with popsicle sticks, he will make “power lines”, or instead of
flowers with construction paper and glue, he will make “Bissel Carpet
Shampooers and Wahl Buzzers out of the construction paper and tape
instead of glue! He free lances his cutting, he does not draw it out
first, and it is amazing what he can do with those scissors. An
architect someday perhaps?
I don’t know what the
future hold for my little boy, but he has the imagination like no other.
Autism has its “ups” for Chris, but also has its “downs”, his
frustration to not be able to get out all the words he wants, or make
friends the way maybe an “average” child would, but that is why we are
so passionate about this walk, to help contribute to his school, in
order to have the means to teach him and his peers that also have
Autism. We can proudly say that our team, and our pledges helped with
getting Chris’ classroom a smart board! And that is why we do this every
year.
