We always knew something was different about Jaxson from the beginning. When he was born he had some problems, which put him into physical therapy within weeks of being born. He ended up in helmet for plagiocephaly (flat head)at 4 months and had that until he was over a year. When that didn't work we were referred on to a neurosurgeon who did a craniotomy on him when he was 18 months old.
It was at that point that we noticed something was really different with him. After a lot of researching and many different doctors, a diagnosis of Autism came in late summer of 2006. I knew at that time I wanted to do something to bring awareness to our community.
Jaxson started an early intervention program at Nettleton in February 2007. I sent a letter to the school to be sent home with all the other kids in the ASD room asking if someone wanted to help me with organizing a walk. Dena (Lilly's mom) responded and now here we are, 5 years later.
This walk is because of Jaxson and Lilly. These two kids may never know that their amazing spirit, their strong will and amazing knowledge is the reason that so many others join us each September.
My Jax is a beautiful, brilliant and curious boy. He may not be the same as typical kids. He may throw fits and have melt downs over something that others find to be minor - but he's a joy. He makes us laugh and he has an amazing memory. He loves trains, volcanoes and sharks!
We walk for Raleigh Edison. They have an amazing group there and I am so thankful that they do such a great job with Jaxson.
All of my kids are amazing - Jaxson just has a little something different to add to the mix- Autism. With Autism, he brought learning. Patience. And sometimes a few more tears but we wouldn't have it any other way.
